At the California Energy Commission's Residential Decarbonization Energy Bill Impact Analyses workshop, held on June 16, 2026, XeroHome CEO & Founder, Mudit Saxena shared lessons learned from modeling more than one million homes across California and beyond.

The presentation explored how physics-based building energy models and utility meter data should be viewed as complementary—not competing—approaches. By combining engineering models with calibration, validation, and weather-response analytics, utilities and policymakers can reduce uncertainty, improve building characterization, and make more accurate retrofit and bill impact predictions. As residential decarbonization programs continue to expand, integrating models with real-world measurements will be essential for delivering scalable, data-driven decisions.
