Mudit Saxena’s presentation at the event discussed how XeroHome’s energy modeling based analysis is being used by homeowners, and cities to understand the potential of reducing carbon emissions from their homes by retrofitting them with efficient electric heat pumps for space and water heating. He showed how the XeroHome tool is being used by Sacramento residents as well as the city and SMUD to understand home electrification costs and savings.
About XeroHome in Sacramento
In a landmark project with the City of Sacramento, California, XeroHome conducted large scale detailed building energy analysis that supplied a comprehensive overview of all 115,000 existing homes in the city. This analysis directly shaped Sacramento’s Existing Buildings Electrification Strategy Roadmap. This initiative aligns with Sacramento's ambitious goal of achieving all carbon-free buildings by 2045 through building electrification and energy efficiency as well as Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s (SMUD’s) commitment to supplying zero-carbon electricity to the city by 2035.
The XeroHome platform served dual roles in this project. It not only offered intricate insights from the analysis of the entire residential sector of the city but also functioned as a homeowner engagement tool. This illustrates the capacity of XeroHome for large-scale nuanced energy modeling, which is vital for the development of existing building policy, and a means to build consensus with the community through homeowner engagement.
